The attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State has been denounced by former presidential contender Peter Obi.
Obi called the attack a defeat for democracy in a statement on đ.
He bemoaned how low democratic standards have become when thugs attack a political partyâs office without fear of retaliation.
âWhat happened at the ADC office in Bakassi, Cross River State, is not just an attack on a political party; it is an attack on democracy itself,â stated Obi.
âIt shows how dangerously low our democratic standards have fallen when thugs can storm a party office and destroy property without being arrested.â
Additionally, he cautioned that the nation may turn violent as a result of the decline in leadership standards and the acceptance of political wrongdoing.

âIt sends a worrisome message to our culture that anyone can offer fraudulent certificates for election. Violence may be the future of our democracy if we keep going in this direction.
âWe must acknowledge that violence and deception can only lead to anarchy and cannot produce meaningful leadership. Our kids and ourselves will eventually be impacted by this upheaval,â he said.
After suspected political thugs disrupted the scheduled launch of an ADC secretariat in Bakassi on Saturday, the former governor of Anambra State spoke.
According to reports, the attackers assaulted the ceremony site, scattering partygoers and demolishing seats, canopies, loudspeakers, and other event-related equipment.
