Plans to elect new members to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have been revealed by a group of the party.
The factional National Chairman, Nafi’u Bala, and the Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Rufus Ikanmi, jointly signed a statement on Sunday in Abuja stating that the election of new NWC members would take place between April 3 and 5.
Ward congresses are scheduled for March 19, local government congresses for March 24, and state congresses for March 28.
The statement states that a consensus will be used to elect ward, local, state, and federal congress executives.
It said that internal cohesion, inclusion, and togetherness were the goals of the decision.
“In keeping with its commitment to fostering unity, cohesion, and inclusivity within the party, this decision is made in compliance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).”
According to the statement, “the BoT/NWC believes that the consensus approach will foster greater cooperation, understanding, and collective leadership, ultimately strengthening the party’s ability to achieve its goals and objectives.”
Additionally, the ADC faction said that a new member registration drive would begin on March 14 and run through March 25.
According to the party, new members must register at their local ward offices in order to get membership cards from the party’s continuous membership registration committee (CMRC).
It made it clear that only new members are eligible to register.
According to the party, “existing members are not required to renew their membership at this time; this exercise is strictly for new members.”
According to the ADC group, requests from the national convention are anticipated to be settled between April 6 and 10, and issues arising from the various congresses would be treated appropriately.
The “ongoing electronic membership mobilization, registration, and revalidation exercise being conducted by the coalition linked to the party” was deemed unlawful.
The faction stated that the official online membership registration portal would be made available later through the party’s authorized channels and that the exercise does not adhere to the rules specified in the party’s constitution.
According to Naija News, the ADC coalition, under the leadership of David Mark, has previously published the agenda and schedule of events for its national convention and congresses.
Polling Unit and Ward Congresses will take place on April 7, 2026, followed by Local Government Area Congresses on April 9 and State Congresses on April 11, according to a public announcement signed by National Organizing Secretary Prince Chinedu Idigo and National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
The process will culminate at the party’s National Convention, which is set for April 14, 2026, according to the announcement.
