IPOB Declares May 30 Lockdown Throughout the Southeast on Biafran Remembrance Day

In honor of “Biafran Heroes and Heroines Remembrance Day,” the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have declared a complete lockdown throughout the South-East region on May 30, 2026.

According to Naija News, the command was included in a statement signed by Mr. C. Okadigbo, the group’s spokesperson, and released by the Directorate of State.

The organization claims that May 30 is set aside to remember those who died in the fight for Biafra’s independence, especially during the Nigerian Civil War.

We take a moment on May 30th to honor and commemorate the men, women, and children who lost their lives defending Biafra.

From 1967 to 2026, we fought for our freedom. The statement said, “The sacrifice they made in the fight for our independence is still a crucial aspect of our history and identity.”

IPOB encouraged locals to commemorate the day with introspection and symbolic acts of remembrance.

On this day, we invite everyone to reflect on their bravery and heroism, share their memories, and honor the families who continue to bear the burden of that loss.

The group said, “Light a candle, observe a moment of silence and reverence, or gather with your families to share memories.”
IPOB described the event as mournful and stated that it is important to remember the sacrifices made by people it called “fallen heroes and heroines.”

The statement said, “May 30th is a day of sober reflection. Let us keep alive the memories of those who died for the cause of Biafra, and let their sacrifice remind us why the ideals of freedom, dignity, and justice for which they paid the ultimate price must not be forgotten or allowed to be extinguished.”

12-hour complete shutdown
The group said that on the specified date, all activity in what it called “Biafraland” would be completely suspended from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The statement stated, “In remembrance of their sacrifices, the leadership of IPOB and the DOS would like to notify the public that on May 30, 2026, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at sunset, the entire Biafraland will be on TOTAL LOCKDOWN. Stay indoors and pray with your family and friends and perform your rituals and prayers according to your faith and belief.”

Except for essential services, IPOB declared that there would be no vehicle movement during that time.

Except for emergency vehicles, there won’t be any vehicle movement. There will be no marketplaces or offices.

It further stated that market leaders, banks, parks, transportation firms, and school owners and administrators are urged to advise their members to avoid becoming victims of contented Nigerian terrorist security officials, and parents are urged to keep their children and wards at home.

Additionally, the group asserted that it had informed South-East governors and other relevant parties of the impending shutdown.

The DOS has formally notified all of Biafraland’s governors of Biafran Heroes and Heroines Remembrance Day, which is scheduled for May 30, 2026. By the beginning of next week, the leadership will also formally notify other stakeholders, according to the statement.

IPOB reiterated its stance and demanded that those it referred to as “fallen fighters” continue to be remembered.

We keep them in mind! We pay them tribute! The group said, “We MUST not forget their sacrifice.”

As the date draws near, the news is anticipated to increase public discussion and security worries in the South-East.
