Finland is warned by Russia not to host nuclear weapons on its territory and is threatened with retaliation.

Russia has accused Helsinki of raising tensions in Europe and endangering Russian security, and it has threatened to retaliate if Finland places nuclear weapons on its soil.

Finland’s proposal to relax a long-standing restriction on hosting nuclear weapons increases the nation’s vulnerability and directly threatens Russia, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

Tensions on the European continent rise as a result of this comment. This statement exacerbates Finland’s vulnerability, which was already heightened by the Finnish government’s actions, according to Peskov.

“The truth is that Finland is starting to threaten us by stationing nuclear weapons on its borders. And we take the necessary action if Finland poses a threat to us,” he continued.

Finland, which has a long border with Russia, was neutral throughout the Cold War but joined NATO in 2023 in reaction to Russia’s conflict in Ukraine.

According to information obtained by Naija News, Finland declared on Thursday that it would be lifting its restriction on hosting nuclear weapons, which would enable NATO to station them on Finnish territory in times of conflict.

In other headlines, Romanian President Nicusor Dan declined to host nuclear components on Romanian soil on Thursday, according to Naija headlines, even though France had invited him to take part in increased nuclear deterrence cooperation.

European nations have been forced to reconsider their security plans, including the use of nuclear weapons, as a result of Russia’s actions in Ukraine and the erratic behavior of US President Donald Trump, including his declared desire to annex Greenland.

As European countries reevaluate their defense postures in an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical climate, Moscow’s warning suggests escalating tensions between Russia and NATO allies along its border.
