Despite a peace agreement, bandits attack Katsina, killing a resident and kidnapping the imam and others.

In the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, bandits have killed a resident and kidnapped multiple others in separate attacks, despite an earlier peace agreement.

According to Naija News, a peace agreement was signed before to Ramadan between local stakeholders and armed organizations operating in the region.

Security analyst and crisis journalist Bakatsine revealed the information in a post on Friday using his 𝕏 account.

The first incident, according to the report, happened in the Gangaren Mangwarori neighborhood of Kankara town at around midnight. The attackers allegedly killed a resident named Malam Surajo and kidnapped an elderly woman named Gwamma.

Around six in the morning on Friday, the gunmen allegedly broke into the Marabar Gurbi hamlet in the same local government region and kidnapped a number of locals.

Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, the community’s second Imam (Na’ibi), was apparently among those kidnapped. He was reportedly en route to the mosque for the Subhi (Fajr) prayer following Sahoor when the assailants attacked.

Despite a supposed peace deal between bandit groups and community stakeholders before to Ramadan, the episodes have sparked new worries among locals.

The most recent attacks, according to locals, have increased anxiety in the neighborhood, prompting requests for more robust security measures to stop future carnage.
