Omenka Thomas, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that there are signs that the party would not run for president in 2027 due to the ongoing leadership dispute.
According to Naija News, the Court of Appeal, which is located in Ibadan, Oyo State, asked the party’s rival sections to settle their differences amicably on Friday, characterizing the situation as a family disagreement that had gone sour.
On the combined appeals from the two groups, the Court of Appeal’s Abuja division is anticipated to render a decision today.
In an interview with Daily Post, Thomas discussed the development and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline for political parties to conduct party primary elections. He stated that the legal dispute regarding the legitimacy of the Ibadan convention will not be resolved prior to the presidential primary election.
Omenka Thomas went on to accuse Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for the PDP’s current turmoil, emphasizing that the former governor of Rivers State does not want the party to have a candidate in the 2027 election.
“We don’t even know what the appeal court will decide on the matter yet, and the primary election is already at the corner,” he stated.
“Now, none of the factions that elect a candidate during the primary want to waste their time and resources because you never know what the court will decide.”
“We assumed that the Appeal Court would have made a decision by now and that the Supreme Court would render a decision before June or July, but we are still in the appeal stage.
“APC is skilled at what they do. Given the PDP’s legal battle, they postponed the primary election date.
“Everything is going according to the FCT Minister’s wishes and he does not want the party to have a candidate in 2027.”
