PDP crisis: Wike and Makinde engage in shady combat

Makinde: “No more vagrants in the PDP.”Wike responds, “You’re a repentant vagabond.”

IBADAN— Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said yesterday that expelled members he referred to as “vagabonds” no longer rule the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, in a covert response to the diatribe of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike on Monday.

In the run-up to the 2023 general elections, Wike and Makinde were both G5 governors; however, they broke up soon after the election.

Speaking yesterday during the Oyo PDP Secretariat’s commissioning in Oke Ado, Ibadan, Makinde claimed that the PDP’s “vagabonds” were ejected in November 2025 and blamed the party’s problems on a leadership void that developed after 2015, which he claimed allowed indiscipline to flourish.

“We always say in Yoruba land that if you see a house or a compound that is peaceful, the vagrant in that house has not grown up,” the governor stated.

2015 saw the rise of the PDP’s vagrants. They had their time, and for ten years, or ten years, they engaged in “vagabondcy” within the PDP. However, they were expelled in November 2025, therefore the PDP will no longer have any vagrants.

Therefore, you ought to be able to identify the source of anything they are doing.

The PDP lost power at the federal level in 2015 due to a leadership void; else, those vagrants would never have been able to seize control of PDP.

The governor claimed that although he had previously supported the group, he has subsequently disassociated himself.

“Let me confess, I was yoked with them towards 2023 after entering government in 2019, but I’ve since repented and am now born again,” he continued.

Makinde accused anonymous actors of spreading lies about the party and stated that it would be unacceptable to enable the group to take over the party once more.

However, it is unacceptable for them to suppress the PDP in order to install an other party. The leaders who were present to deliver the words of goodwill continued to emphasize certain points.

“They continued to discuss the truth, the truth, and the truth. And I’ll tell lies. For twenty years, they can keep selling their lies. However, lying will end the day the truth is revealed, according to Makinde.

He stated that the numerous court issues involving the PDP would eventually be settled, but he also expressed faith in the courts to settle ongoing legal conflicts affecting the party.

He continued, saying: “I have complete faith in Nigeria’s legal system. I’m confident they’ll take the necessary action. Therefore, all of these court matters will eventually come together. And the PDP will receive justice from the judiciary, which is the last resort for the average person.

The governor also admitted to previous political affiliations, which he called unfortunate, and said he has since made the decision not to do so again.

In remembrance of Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, the former state chairman who led the PDP back to power in Oyo State in 2019, he declared that the newly established secretariat would be called Mustapha House.

He stated: “A chairman led the PDP back to power in Oyo State in 2019 after the party lost its federal seat in 2015.” Alhaji Mustapha is that chairman. This structure will be called Mustapha House in honor of this legacy.

Makinde went on to say that he will formally provide the PDP National Chairman the property’s title deeds, who will then forward them to the party’s Board of Trustees.

“The title documents to this property are in this document in front of me. I will formally pass it over to the national chairman, who will then forward it to the Board of Trustees, which is responsible for managing the PDP’s assets.

However, Makinde reiterated his dedication to the party outside of Oyo State, saying, “My interest is not limited to Oyo State alone.” I have a strong commitment to the PDP’s expansion, stability, and cohesion—not only at the state level but also nationwide.

Earlier in his speech, Kamorudeen Ajisafe, the chairman of the PDP South-West, characterized the gathering as an expression of the party’s solidarity in the area.

“The event that took place yesterday is a clear indication that the South-West is united and firmly positioned within our great party,” stated Ajisafe.

Speaking as well, Mr. Dayo Ogungbenro, the chairman of the Oyo PDP, acknowledged that he was first dubious about the project and stated that the secretariat’s completion demonstrated the party’s leadership potential and vision.

“I was dubious about the concept of creating this secretariat at first. I having just had an accident at the time, and considering the difficulties the party had encountered, I wondered if such an ambitious effort was really feasible. Ogungbenro remarked, “I even wondered if we could only afford something as modest as providing lunch for members.”

Wike: “You’re a repentant vagrant.”
Governor Makinde was swiftly attacked verbally by the camp of FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike, who called his recent vow of allegiance to the PDP the late “repentance of a vagabond.”

In response to the governor’s promise not to suppress the PDP for the benefit of another party in 2027, Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, characterized the statement as a face-saving move motivated by political fear.

Olayinka described Makinde’s abrupt change in tone as an acknowledgement of his prior involvement in undermining the party’s objectives.

“He (Makinde) acknowledged that he was a vagrant,” he stated. He claimed to have now expressed regret. Thus, he was formerly a vagrant who professed to have turned from his wandering lifestyle.

The governor’s political consistency was further questioned by the minister’s assistant, who cautioned that the “repentance” might just be fleeting.

Using an old saying to support his argument, Olayinka implied that Makinde was still prone to the same “treachery” that characterized his earlier political moves.

It’s believed here that even when a crazy is cured of his insanity, certain signs of it will still be present. Therefore, don’t be shocked if he returns to being the same vagrant he said he had repented of tomorrow, just as he has been inconsistent politically,” he continued.

According to Olayinka, the governor is currently uneasy about the changing political environment and is trying to hide inside the party structure in order to prevent future repercussions.

“The truth is, we are aware of his concerns and anxieties,” he stated. We are aware that he is aware of what is about to happen. Unfortunately, though, we are unable to stop the political betrayal he started from consuming him.

Remember that earlier on Monday, Wike expressed interest in all PDP events in Oyo State.

Speaking during his faction’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike pledged to defend the national party against internal “vampires.”
