Ovie Omo-Agege, a former Senate deputy president, has formally announced his plans to run for the Delta Central Senatorial District in 2027.
In his declaration, Omo-Agege stated that he plans to run on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
According to Naija News, Omo-Agege was the 9th National Assembly’s Deputy Senate President.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who ran on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket but has since switched to the APC, defeated him in the 2023 Delta State gubernatorial campaign.
The notion of former governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was strongly denied by Omo-Agege, who declared that they are not welcome in the party.
Omo-Agege stated that the APC was the dominant party in Delta State and had continued to build momentum during a meeting with APC officials, elders, and stakeholders in the Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas.
He pointed out that despite the PDP’s assertions that the APC was no longer relevant in Delta State, the party had won two Senate seats, two House of Representatives seats, and more defections from PDP members.
He added that the APC won two of the three House of Representatives seats in the Delta Central Senatorial District, where he and Governor Oborevwori are from, while the Labour Party got one. PDP did not win.
Since then, Okowa has also switched from the PDP to the APC.
