“No Candidate Has Been Announced”: CPS Discusses Makinde’s Ideal Successor

According to his media assistant, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has not selected a favorite candidate in advance of the 2027 governorship election.

In response to rumors that Makinde had chosen a successor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor’s chief press secretary and special adviser on media, said this on Thursday.

On Wednesday night, there were rumors that the governor had designated Bimbo Adekanmbi, a former commissioner for finance, as his favorite candidate for the next election.

Adekanmbi was a commissioner under the late former governor Abiola Ajimobi.

In a phone interview with Daily Post, Olanrewaju refuted the alleged endorsement. He claimed that Makinde and his political allies were still discussing potential candidates.

“No, they are still consulting,” Olanrewaju stated. The selection of the candidate is still being discussed. They have not yet made an announcement.

“I mentioned that they continue to have consultations. There has been no announcement. There is no announced candidate.

Before the next election cycle, Makinde and some of his supporters in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were reportedly considering using the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their platform.

According to sources quoted in the media, talks about Adekanmbi’s potential rise picked up steam on Wednesday following negotiations with political stakeholders and party leaders throughout the state.

The governor’s assistant, however, insisted that as of Thursday, no favored candidate had been declared.
