According to Abayomi Arabambi, National Vice Chairman of the Factional Labour Party (South West), former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is not the end of his political career.
According to Naija News, Arabambi made the remark while speaking on Arise Television regarding Obi running for president of the NDC in advance of the national elections in 2027.
Obi’s defection to the new party might not provide him with a long-term political home, he said, adding that the Labour Party’s remaining members might have strong reactions to his departure and the events that followed.
He contends that a politician cannot undermine a platform and then expect to proceed without encountering political backlash. He continued by saying that the political landscape is competitive and that widespread public support is necessary for success.
“Peter Obi’s move to the NDC is not his final destination,” he stated. After upending the Labour Party, he would soon encounter significant political opposition from those still in the party hierarchy if he believes he has found a safe refuge.
Internal political realities will eventually catch up with him, so he cannot undermine a platform and then move on without repercussions.
In the end, the political arena is competitive, and no one can impose their will without widespread support.
“But Nigerians have the final say, and no candidate can win the presidency without addressing issues of accountability, governance, and the fight against corruption,” he stated.
