According to Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam, a former governor of Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia is still the state’s political father, and they are all looking to him for support.
According to Naija News, Suswam denied the suggestion that Governor Alia, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and members of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) were at odds during his appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
According to Suswam, following a significant gathering of APC stakeholders at the State Government House in Makurdi, the state capital, Governor Alia and Akume have resolved their issues.
“Everyone must seek the governor’s support because the governor is currently the political father of the state,” he declared.
We’re all trying to get the governor’s support, and I’m grateful that I won the nomination.
“I’m a member of the APC. A few weeks ago, the governor of Benue, along with the SGF and APC stakeholders, summoned all of us to the Government House through Mr. President’s intervention.
“The governor and the SGF both made statements to the public at the conclusion of our extremely impressive reconciliation meeting, indicating that reconciliations had occurred.
“As far as I know and am concerned, there is no divide in Benue.”
The former governor denied being affiliated with any faction inside the state APC while discussing his victory in the APC primary.
“I was nominated and ran under the platform of the APC, not the platform of the SGF or the governor,” he continued.
Recall that Suswam received 131,083 votes to win the Benue North East, Zone A, APC Senatorial Primary.
In the hotly contested primary election held in the seven local government districts of Katsina-Ala, Logo, Ukum, Konshisha, Vandeikya, Kwande, and Ushongo, Suswam defeated Emmanuel Memga Udende, the incumbent senator and his closest opponent.
