What Unai Emery Told Aston Villa’s Players Prior to Their Europa League Victory

Aston Villa easily defeated SC Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul on Wednesday night in the UEFA Europa League final, according to Unai Emery.

After the game, the Spaniard disclosed that he gave his players a challenge prior to kickoff to seize the opportunity and demonstrate their passion on the field. Villa put on a spectacular performance to win one of the biggest trophies in the team’s recent history, proving that his message was effective.

After the final, Emery remarked, “We played in a very serious way this year, so focused, and of course, the players showed their desire.”

“We need desire in this competition and show it on the field,” I told my guys. The protagonists are you. And they succeeded.

Aston Villa F.C. easily defeated the Bundesliga team in Turkey thanks to goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía, and Morgan Rogers.

Early in the match, Villa grabbed control thanks to a goal by Tielemans, and Buendía’s second goal solidified Emery’s team’s lead. As Freiburg found it difficult to match Villa’s intensity and movement, Rogers finished the thrashing in the closing minutes.

Emery’s triumph also made him a historical figure. After winning the competition three times with Sevilla FC and once with Villarreal CF, the 54-year-old became the first manager to win the Europa League with three separate teams.

Emery now shares the record for the most significant European final wins by a manager with Carlo Ancelotti, José Mourinho, and Giovanni Trapattoni.
