Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, revealed that prior to meeting President Bola Tinubu and switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his principal sought the approval of former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso.
According to Naija News, Bature made this revelation on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
He pointed out that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was no longer a strong political platform, forcing Kwankwasiyya movement members—including Governor Abba—to join the APC.
Bature states: “We first left the NNPP in January, not the Kwankwasiyya movement as previously stated, and the Kwankwasiyya ideology has been adopted as the system of governance in Kano State because Kwankwaso was one of the pillars in the state that worked for the current administration.”
However, in politics, context is more important than content. We understand well that the NNPP is no longer a strong political platform for the 2027 election.
As a result, Kwankwaso and other important stakeholders agreed that we should find a long-term solution before 2027 since NNPP cannot continue.
“Therefore, we chose to approach Tinubu as the first option with Kwankwaso’s approval.”
