Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu was named Chairman of the National Examination Council’s (NECO) Governing Board by President Bola Tinubu, who also kept Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as registrar.
According to Naija News, Tinubu appointed new people to the Federal Ministry of Education’s National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), Federal Polytechnic in N’yak Shendam, Plateau State, and National Library of Nigeria, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Advisor to the President on Information and Strategy.
The statement states that Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s term as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria was extended, and Dr. Bongfa Binfa was named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State.
Binfa was appointed by Tinubu to replace Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the pioneering Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, whose term ended on March 16, 2026.
Following the conclusion of the procedure for selecting a new Rector through a public advertisement in national dailies in September 2025, Binfa will be appointed for a single term of five years.
Additionally, Tinubu reappointed Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, the current executive secretary, for a second and final five-year term and named Professor Babatunde Salako as the NBTE chairman.
“Professor Adelabu, who chairs NECO, is a retired professor of educational administration who rose through the ranks to full professorship at the Obafemi Awolowo University,” the statement emphasized. She served as the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Chairman from 2018 to 2021 and as the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State from 2013 to 2014.
The new chair of NBTE, Prof. Babatunde Salako, is a well-known researcher with decades of expertise in national policy leadership, institutional governance, and higher education.
From 2016 to 2024, he was the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), which saw substantial revitalization, improved infrastructure and research outputs, increased international collaborations, and improved research governance.
Dr. Binfa graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in mechanical engineering. Dr. Binfa served as the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny’s Deputy Rector (Academic) prior to this assignment. Additionally, he taught in the Federal Polytechnic of Idah’s Mechanical Engineering Department.
Additionally, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s term as CEO of the National Library of Nigeria was extended by President Tinubu for an additional five years.
The National Repository of Nigeria, the Newspaper and Magazine Locator, the Index and Abstract to Nigerian Newspapers, and the National Virtual Library of Nigeria are just a few of the institutional changes that Anunobi has spearheaded since taking office on September 2, 2021, with the goal of repositioning the National Library as a cutting-edge, technology-driven knowledge institution.
“She has also played a strategic role in advancing the long-awaited completion of the National Library Headquarters project and in initiating plans to migrate heritage collections from the 34 state branches to the new headquarters in Abuja,” the statement continued.
“The President anticipates that the extension of her term will guarantee continuity in the execution of the institution’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, the completion of the National Library Headquarters project, and ongoing reforms.”
