FIFA director Gianni Infantino stated on Wednesday that despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has stated that Iran is “welcome” to participate in the next World Cup in North America.
The chairman of the world football governing body posted on Instagram that “we also spoke about the current situation in Iran” during a meeting to review competition preparations.
He wrote, “During the talks, President Trump reaffirmed that the Iranian team is, of course, welcome to compete in the tournament in the United States.”
