Three months after leaving the Formula 1 team, Ugo Ugochukwu, a former McLaren development driver, has won the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy.
With four victories from 15 races, the 18-year-old won the championship, finishing 15 points ahead of Audi F1 junior Freddie Slater.
In a season marked by consistency, Ugochukwu finished outside of the top 10 just twice and stood on the podium in every round.
After the New Zealand Grand Prix, Ugochukwu remarked, “It’s an incredible feeling to cross the line.” “I was just relieved to finish the race, get it over with, and win the championship, even though it felt much longer than usual.”
“It’s been a really good campaign, really good season,” he continued, looking back on the campaign. I am really grateful to the entire crew. I’m thrilled for them than for me since they did a fantastic job all year.

At the season finale, a left-front suspension failure during qualifying resulted in a technical breach that dropped him to 13th on the grid, almost ending his title challenge. He managed to get the points required to win the championship in spite of the setback.
Ugochukwu remarked, “It hasn’t been easy.” “I needed to move past it, focus on the bigger picture, and win the championship, and we did just that.”
With Campos Racing, Ugochukwu will now embark on his second FIA Formula 3 season, which will begin at the Australian Grand Prix on March 6–8.
