The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is being tolerated and accommodated by the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to National Chairman Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
In response to disagreements resulting from the APC congresses in the Federal Capital Territory, he made this statement on Tuesday while answering questions from reporters in Abuja shortly after meeting with APC stakeholders.
Yilwatda clarified that because of the current arrangement between the ruling party and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), APC has continued to collaborate closely with Wike.
He claims that the Minister is upholding a cooperative relationship that the party established with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the Minister’s request to serve in the ruling APC.
The APC National Chairman voiced concern over the clash of interests between foundation members of the party in the FCT and defectors from the PDP, who were accused of seeking to hijack the APC.
He warned the founding party members not to give in to pressure and leave the APC to defectors from other parties.
Prior to the 2027 general elections, Prof. Yilwatda revealed that more than ₦250 million had been allocated for the FCT’s ward and state congresses. He urged the stakeholders to put aside tribal, religious, ethnic, and other dividing attitudes and come together as the APC prepares.
“To ensure balance and to give everyone a sense of belonging in the APC, there must be harmony in decision-making processes in the sharing of elective and appointive positions,” he stated.
He suggested that a procedure that promotes inclusivity, diversity, tolerance, and love based on a common dedication to the party’s success in the upcoming elections be used to accommodate all the tribes.
