Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, stated that ongoing talks over a partnership between his principle, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), are starting to produce results.
According to Naija News, Peter Obi’s recent trip to Kwankwaso in Kano has sparked new rumors about a potential alliance between the two, whose individual goals in 2023 might have lost them a chance to work together.
In an interview with Daily Post, Tanko disclosed that the conversation between Kwankwaso and Peter Obi began in the wake of the 2023 elections, emphasizing that the goal is to form a broad coalition to save Nigeria.
According to Tanko, the opposition would be much strengthened and electoral prospects would be improved if Peter Obi and Kwankwaso supporters joined forces.
He claims that the possible coalition is appropriate because of the nation’s deterioration, which has led many people to demand a radical departure from the status quo.
The coordinator of the Obidient Movement expressed hope that a unified opposition front may present a strong challenge in 2027, pointing out that previous interactions between the two groups have already sparked a lot of public interest and support.
“Well, we started this discussion with His Excellency Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in 2023,” he stated. We think that in order to save Nigeria, all hands must be on deck.
“I think that specific conversation is helping them work together. And all well-meaning Nigerians might benefit from this partnership, not only Rabiu Kwankwaso.
If the Obidient and the Kwankwaso gang collaborate as a team, it will have great significance. It will provide us with a great deal of assistance and mileage. For me, that is how I think.
Given the nation’s decline, which has led many to call for a radical departure from the status quo, I believe that this is even the finest choice and the ideal moment for such an alliance to succeed.
“We have leaders that are older than 80 or 90. Now that we may have two of them in their 60s, we will undoubtedly have more dynamic leaders who are able to respond to the restoration and longing of every Nigerian.
Therefore, I believe that this is one of their best opportunities—at least for the opposition. I can assure you that if they are able to unite and collaborate as a team, they will be able to do everything they set their minds to. This visit has garnered a lot of support from Nigerians.
