Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, revealed the reasons why governors did not want him to continue serving as the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) national chairman.
The congressman for Edo North said on News Central’s 60 Minutes with Mr. Kay that governors warned him directly that they were worried he would force President Bola Tinubu to run for president in 2023.
He stated that upholding party regulations and holding free and fair primaries characterized his time as APC national chairman.
“People wanted me to adopt their style, and I can’t borrow your style because I’m a laborer and I come from the real democratic foundation where it’s not about your strength but about numbers,” stated Oshiomhole.
As a result, some governors contest my authority as national chairman to vote the party according to its constitution. For instance, the governor of Ogun State at the time disregarded the National Working Committee’s regulations because he had a close relationship with the late former President Buhari and was therefore above the law.
“We held primaries, but he decided to have his own, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling that there is only one registered political party, states, and organization. Additionally, we refused to acknowledge his decision to hold his own primary and upheld the outcome of the one we organized, which resulted in Dapo Abiodun being elected governor.
The NWC, which I chaired in accordance with the party constitution, asked him a question after he failed to respond, and we suspended him. He later sponsored the governorship and House of Assembly in another political party called APM. Amosun imposed evil men.
“Some of the governors told me directly that they had no issues with me since I have no issues with them, but they think that if I continue as chairman, I will force Bola Tinubu, the party’s leader at the time, to run for president on behalf of the APC. I’ve advised folks that what God has intended for you is more important than what you pray for in life.
