After the police reopened the secretariat last week, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is scheduled to convene its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza.
Following a violent altercation between groups supporting Tanimu Turaki and those supporting Abdulrahman Mohammed, both of whom were vying for the party’s leadership, the party’s secretariat was shut in November of last year.
When the Court of Appeal declared the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led leadership to be unlawful in March, the issue took a new direction.
The Mohammed-led group, which is allegedly supported by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, used the decision to plan a different convention in Abuja.
Members who support the Mohammed-led faction are anticipated to attend the NEC meeting.
Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu are among the prominent individuals scheduled to attend the conference.
In the meantime, Wike’s supporters have promised to run a presidential candidate in 2027.
According to Naija News, Wike has publicly said that he supports President Bola Tinubu’s reelection.
In a recent television interview, he disclosed that the party does not have the financial resources to support a presidential campaign.
However, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, refuted rumors that the party would not have a presidential candidate in an interview with Daily Trust.
He revealed that matters pertaining to zoning and the cost of the forms will be discussed and resolved at the National Executive Committee meeting on Monday.
