Udenta Attacks El-Rufai’s Detention, Saying It Is Injustice

Prof. Udenta Udenta, a fellow of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has called the ongoing detention of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, an injustice.

According to Naija News, El-Rufai was charged with nine counts by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), which included allegedly granting benefits under false pretenses and dishonestly disposing of loan monies.

Following the postponement of his bail hearing until June, El-Rufai has been detained.

In an interview with Arise Television’s “Prime Time,” Udenta stated that El-Rufai shouldn’t be detained indefinitely due to an inquiry.

He claims that El-Rufai does not need to be detained in order for the security forces to conduct investigations.

Additionally, the professor proposed that they confiscate El-Rufai’s passport and limit his travel.

“You cannot keep a man in perpetual detention because you are conducting an investigation,” he continued. That is unfair.

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate, expressed worries about what he called “lawfare” being used against El-Rufai in a social media post, emphasizing that legal processes shouldn’t be used as a means of intimidation.

Sowore urged the courts to protect the rule of law by ensuring that everyone is given a fair trial and granted bail when needed.

The human rights advocate claims that it is unfair, illegal, and inappropriate to use bail requirements as a way to imprison Nigerians.

Sowore emphasized the need for justice in the implementation of the law and stated that such activities should be condemned, regardless of who is engaged.
