Tinubu Schedules a New Meeting

Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (retd.) has been appointed Special Advisor on Homeland Security by President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement released on Monday by Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, the appointment demonstrates the Tinubu administration’s dedication to bolstering internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-led operations, and expanding cooperation among security agencies in response to new threats throughout the nation.

Fadewa is a highly decorated retired general with more than thirty years of military and intelligence expertise, according to the Presidency.

According to the circular, his work included international security diplomacy, intelligence fusion, counterterrorism operations, and national security policy.

“Major General Fadewa (Rtd) is a highly decorated retired General with over thirty years of distinguished military and intelligence service spanning national security strategy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy,” it stated.

According to the statement, Fadewa’s career demonstrated an uncommon blend of institutional leadership, strategic vision, and operational competence.

“His career reflects a rare blend of operational excellence, strategic foresight, and institutional leadership in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests,” the statement continued.

Fadewa’s position as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser in the Office of the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021 was also emphasized by the Presidency.

It said that during that time, he had a significant influence on the development of Nigeria’s contemporary intelligence coordination system.

The circular states that Fadewa was the driving force behind the creation of ONSA’s Intelligence Fusion Center.

The Defense Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and Armed Forces were all involved in the center’s construction as a multi-agency intelligence platform.

According to the release, the platform enhanced strategic response coordination and national threat assessment.

According to the circular, Fadewa worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Center in Abuja following his retirement from active duty.

He continued to contribute to conversations on national security reform, civil-security cooperation, and police in that capacity.

The monograph Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which concentrated on useful frameworks for enhancing civil-security cooperation, was also mentioned as part of his academic output.

Through improved coordination of homeland security measures, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management, President Tinubu expressed optimism that the appointment will strengthen ongoing efforts to create a safer Nigeria.

Tinubu advised the retired general to apply his strategic acumen and experience to the new position.

“President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointment of Major General Fadewa (Rtd) will further enhance the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria through improved coordination of homeland security initiatives, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management,” the circular said.

The President also urged him to use his extensive expertise, skill, and strategic acumen to promote the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and advance national security goals.
