In a recent media report credited to Pastor Festus Onyenwe, the executive council of the Port Harcourt Motor Parts Dealers Union, Ikokwu, Rivers State, denounced the claim that Governor Siminalayi Fubara shows little concern for the state’s Igbo people.
The group emphasized that Onyenwe had no authority to speak for the union or Ndi-Igbo in Rivers State in a statement released on Wednesday and jointly signed by Mr. Vincent Ignatius Onwuzuruike, the union’s Line Chairman and Zonal Leader; Mr. Ikenna Nwokomgbe, the Dickson/Ihioma union’s chairman; and Mr. Charles Uzochukwu Opia, the 7B Line union’s chairman.
“He did not receive the union’s mandate to make such a purported statement and cannot speak for Ndi-Igbo in Rivers State,” the union stated. He is not authorized by the union to make such unfounded accusations against the governor.
By highlighting its emphasis on the security, solidarity, and advancement of the state and its citizens, the union further emphasized its apolitical position. The statement went on to say, “We are dedicated to the development, peace, and unity of Rivers State, which is home to Ndi-Igbo at any time of day.”
In order to ensure that Governor Fubara acknowledges the contributions of Igbo people to the state’s economy, the traders applauded the accomplishments of the state administration and the intervention of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, Rivers State chapter.
“We will not sit back and watch any individual sabotage the extremely productive efforts recorded so far,” the union continued. We shall not take the governor’s promise to see to our needs for granted since we are aware of it.
It emphasized that Igbo traders in Rivers State, especially members of the Ikokwu Motor Spare Parts Dealers, continue to be vital stakeholders in the state’s development and reaffirmed its support for all measures targeted at the state’s economic progress.
The union called the alleged Onyenwe statement “baseless and without merit” and advised the people to ignore it.
