The purported acquisition of sophisticated weapons by Bello Turji has sparked new fear in the northwest.

Bello Turji, a notorious bandit kingpin, has allegedly acquired advanced weapons and collaborated with Boko Haram to train and equip new militants, raising concerns about an emerging security danger in the North-West.

According to information obtained by Naija News, Bashir Altine Guyawa Isa, the leader of Rundunar Adalchi in Sokoto State, stated in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service that Turji has increased his efforts to fortify his operational capability by forming partnerships with extremist organizations active in the area.

Isa claims that information that local security volunteers have access to suggests that Turji and his accomplices have set up a training camp close to the Sokoto-Zamfara border, where recruits are purportedly being armed and prepared for upcoming operations.

Isa claimed that the camp has been around for a while and functions as a strategic base for the recruitment, indoctrination, and training of fighters who are subsequently sent to carry out attacks across communities in the North-West. She emphasized that Boko Haram members have been giving the fighters logistical support and training, which has increased the sophistication of criminal networks operating in the area.

The vigilante leader voiced concern that the camp’s continuing existence could jeopardize ongoing security agency attempts to restore calm in impacted neighborhoods and represent a major threat to public safety.

Additionally, he said that the facility’s existence is known to the appropriate authorities and emphasized the necessity of taking swift action to demolish it before the situation worsens.

Isa added that information obtained by regional security organizations indicates that the terrorists might be preparing to extend their activities outside of rural areas and start focusing on high-profile facilities and well-known people.

He cautioned that if action is not taken quickly, terrorists may gain confidence and additional communities may be vulnerable to attacks, kidnappings, and other violent crimes that have recently afflicted areas of Sokoto, Zamfara, and nearby states.

Isa urged government officials and security agencies to respond quickly to the reported developments in order to stop the security situation in the region from getting worse, while also advocating for increased military operations and intelligence-driven interventions.
