The governor of Borno fires every commissioner.

Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, promptly disbanded the State Executive Council and fired all commissioners.

According to Naija News, the action is meant to make it possible for Commissioners to resign from executive positions without facing conflict if they want to fight for elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

By Friday, April 3, 2026, Governor Zulum has directed all former Commissioners to hand over management of their ministries to the Permanent Secretaries.

Additionally, he thanked the Commissioners for their service, commitment, and contributions to Borno State’s advancement during their tenure.

In a similar incident, Cross River State Governor Bassey Edet Otu has ordered all State Executive Council members and political appointees who plan to run in the general elections of 2027 to step down by March 26, 2026, at the latest.

According to Naija News, the command was given during the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday in an attempt to maintain honesty, discipline, and focus in government.

The governor clarified in his announcement that no appointee with political aspirations for 2027 would be permitted to hold office past the deadline.

“As the Governor of Cross River State, I have mandated that all political appointees and members of the State Executive Council who plan to run in the 2027 general elections resign from their positions by March 26, 2026, at the latest,” Otu stated.
