Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has declared that he is prepared to die for the nation.
Obi made the statement in an interview that Nevon Media broadcast on Tuesday, according to Naija News.
He said that the nation’s security issues should be handled by a single individual.
“I stated that there should only be one person in charge. We declare war. You must be prepared to die if you are prepared to live. “Go home if you’re not ready to die,” he said.
Obi reaffirmed that he had no justification for possessing a passport from any other nation.
“I’m willing to give my life for Nigeria.” It is a single nation. The state cannot be taken over by non-state actors, according to Obi.
In the meantime, Obi has stated that if he had been Nigeria’s president, he would have systematically eliminated the petroleum product subsidy.
According to Naija News, Obi stated that even though he was in favor of eliminating the fuel subsidy, he would not have made the announcement on the day of his inauguration.
In reaction to allegations that he chastised President Bola Tinubu for eliminating the fuel subsidy in 2023, the former governor of Anambra State made this statement in an interview with Rufai Oseni.
When Tinubu became office, he declared that gasoline subsidies would be eliminated.
Obi stated that he was more worried about the present administration’s procedure than the actual elimination of the subsidy.
“I didn’t condemn Tinubu for taking away the subsidies. I stated that I would have taken it out, but in a methodical way. Obi remarked, “I wouldn’t have made the announcement at my inauguration.”
He clarified that before making such a significant policy statement, he would have first consulted petroleum industry operators and stakeholders.
“We know there is a lot of criminality around the subsidy, so I would have first sat down with operators in the industry,” he continued.
According to Obi, any successful effort to eliminate subsidies must be followed by a thorough assessment of the nation’s expenditures on the program and vigorous anti-corruption measures.
In order to ascertain the precise amount spent on subsidies and to solve the issue of exchange rate deregulation, I would withdraw it. However, combating corruption head-on is the most crucial aspect of doing these things, he stated.
According to the NDC candidate, policy changes must be carried out in a way that safeguards regular people.
