NewsEx: Shekarau, the Kano governor, loses his older brother

According to reports, Malam Dahiru Shekarau, the older brother of former Kano State Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has passed away.

After a protracted illness, Shekarau passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Kano, according to family sources cited by Daily Trust.

According to Naija News, the deceased Shekarau was a retired Permanent Secretary who held a number of positions in several ministries within the Kano State Civil Service.

He progressed through the ranks over his years of service and eventually attained the position of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology until his retirement.

After his civil service career peaked, he retired from active duty in 2015.

The Giginyu Jumu’at Mosque in Kano State’s Nasarawa Local Government Area is set to host funeral prayers for the departed on Wednesday.

To pay their final respects to the deceased civil servant, whose passing has prompted tributes from coworkers and acquaintances, family members, associates, and sympathizers are anticipated to attend the Janazah prayer.

The Kano State Government has denied rumors that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was part of a plot to depose Kano’s Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, a spokesman for Governor Yusuf, called the rumors “false and misleading” and emphasized that there is no plan to alter the emirate’s structure.

Bature stated, “There is no plan to replace Emir Sanusi on the throne of Kano,” according to Arise TV.

“The executive level has no intention of amending the emirate law, which was repealed after the emir was appointed.”

He emphasized that the Kano Emirate’s current situation will not be altered by the governor’s political realignment.

Bature added, “The governor’s defection to the APC will not alter the current situation, as Emir Sanusi has been duly appointed in compliance with the law.” The Emir of Kano is still Emir Sanusi.

Bature asked citizens to refrain from politicizing the emirate issue, attributing the continuous conjecture to the selfish ambitions of a select few rather than any governmental directive.

The issue of the Emirates is not a matter of politics. Some people’s own interests are driving it, he claimed.

His explanation followed Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, who stated that the government was seeking discussion and reconciliation to end the protracted Kano Emirate problem, by a few days.

After Muhammadu Sanusi II was reinstated and Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir, was overthrown, there were conflicting claims to the throne, which resulted in the emirate crisis that has lasted for almost two years.

In a recent speech, Waiya promised that once all parties embrace unity, the problem will be addressed quickly.
