Vivian, the wife of Nollywood actor Victor Nwaogu, better known by his stage name Nkubi, has accused Nigeria’s healthcare system of discriminating against her when a doctor made an offensive comment to her while she was pregnant.
According to Naija News, Vivian mentioned this in a Pulse One-on-One interview.
Nkubi’s wife described her experience, saying that after presenting the results of an abnormality scan at the hospital, the unidentified doctor asked if there was a family history of dwarfism.
When the doctor asked why she chose to conceive with her spouse instead of using a sperm donor or enlisting the aid of her brother-in-law, Vivian revealed that the conversation took an unexpected turn.
The remark, which implied that people with dwarfism encounter discrimination even in professional healthcare settings, was deemed disrespectful and discriminating by Nkubi’s wife.
“When I gave the doctor my anomaly scan, he asked, ‘Does anyone in your family have a trait of dwarfism?'” she stated. Then I replied, “Yes.” My hubby is there.
“Why didn’t you get pregnant for your husband or even get a sperm donor, or go to your brother-in-law or even go outside to get pregnant?” the doctor asked me. Yes, I did hear that from a doctor. Equal rights are not being granted in our nation at all.
