Jigawa Takes the Lead After INEC Releases New CVR Data

As of February 13, 2026, more than 1.2 million Nigerians had completed the second phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration campaign, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has seen a significant rise in voter registrations.

In Phase II, Week Six, 1,228,648 eligible residents had fully completed their registration, according to an official notification sent by the commission via its 𝕏 account.

The number is a considerable increase above the 884,737 that was noted at the conclusion of Week Five.

673,124 potential voters started the process online, according to INEC, while 555,524 finished it in person at registration locations across the country.

Ahead of upcoming elections, the commission saw the development as a sign of increasing public engagement in the democratic process.

Leads in Jigawa, Lagos, Sokoto, and Kano

According to a state-by-state analysis, Jigawa State had the most new registrations (98,698), accounting for 8.03 percent of the total.

Lagos State (86,307 registrations), Sokoto State (77,004), and Kano State (71,990) came next.

INEC provided the following demographic information: “Male: 531,757 (43%); Female: 696,891 (57%).” Youth (18–34 years old): 848,066 (69.02%). People with disabilities (PWDs): 19,414 people nationwide who have registered.

According to Naija News, the data shows that women and young Nigerians, who make up the majority of new registrants, turned out in large numbers.

According to the commission, the exercise is still going on nationwide, with the exception of the Federal Capital Territory, where it has been temporarily halted in accordance with electoral laws in preparation for the Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.

Beginning on January 5, 2026, Phase II of the CVR is anticipated to conclude in April 2026. It expands upon Phase I of the operation, which increased the number of voters in the national register by approximately 2.78 million between August and December 2025.
