The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed optimism that the recently inaugurated Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance centre will drastically reduce crime and improve police service delivery in 2026.
This was said by Egbetokun on Monday when the surveillance facility in Lagos was inspected.
The installation of the CCTV center, according to the police commander, is a part of continuous efforts to implement technology-driven policing and fortify the command’s security architecture.
According to him, the surveillance facility is expected to boost intelligence collecting, improve response time, and enable effective crime prevention and detection.
He praised the center’s construction and commissioning partners as well as the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, pointing out that cooperation was still essential to attaining long-term security results.
“As we move into 2026, I expect better service delivery from the police. We’ll do better than we did the year before,” he declared.
According to the I-G, the Nigeria Police Force is a forward-thinking organization dedicated to ongoing development.
According to Egbetokun, implementing contemporary monitoring technology would help reduce crime rates and restore public trust in law enforcement.
In order to reassure Nigerians of the police force’s dedication to professionalism, efficiency, and enhanced security across the country, he also advised officers to make efficient use of the facility in accordance with international best practices.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, launched the CCTV Surveillance Centre on Jan. 14.
Under the direction of Engineer Dave Umahi, the Federal Government’s Ministry of Works constructed and outfitted the digital facility.
The Third Mainland Bridge, nearby waterways, and other key sites along the Island axis are all under real-time surveillance and monitoring thanks to the facility.
The goal of the program is to improve property and life protection while proactively preventing crime. (NAN)
