After a strong performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards event on Sunday, February 1, Kendrick Lamar made music history by being the most decorated rapper.
The Compton-born rapper entered the night with 22 Grammy victories and went away with five more, raising his career total to 27. In doing so, the 38-year-old broke Jay-Z’s record of 25 and pulled ahead of Kanye West, who has 24, winning the title of the most decorated rapper in Grammy history.
Lamar won Best Rap Album for GNX early in the evening, marking his third victory in the category after Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers in 2023 and To Pimp a Butterfly in 2016.
Lamar went on to dominate the rap categories, winning Best Rap Song for “Tv off” featuring Lefty Gunplay, Best Rap Performance for “Chains & Whips” with Clipse, and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Luther,” his collaboration with SZA. Additionally, he won Record of the Year for “Luther,” becoming the first rapper to win the award twice in a row and his second straight victory in the general field.
