An eight-person high-ranking committee has been established by Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to supervise the implementation of the state police and the introduction of the policing vision.
According to information obtained by Naija News, Disu inaugurated the committee and had his first official meeting with senior officials on Wednesday after being confirmed as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police.
The eight-person state police committee will be headed by Professor Olu Ogunsakin.
Speaking to the Nigeria Police Force’s upper echelons, IGP Disu stated that leadership is about accountability rather than status.
He believes that professionalism and responsibility should become guiding concepts that influence behavior and operations across all commands in the country, rather than just catchphrases.
Disu stressed that every Nigerian must be treated with respect, justice, and fairness regardless of rank or background. He also announced intentions to improve internal oversight systems and ordered the Public Complaint Unit and X-Squad to work independently.
The new police chief went on to say that the various levels of government will be able to actively participate in security thanks to the decentralization of police functions.
Remember that on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu swore in Disu at the Presidential Villa after the Nigeria Police Council overwhelmingly approved his appointment.
