400 Terrorism Suspects Are Arraigned in Court by FG

On Monday, more than 400 suspected terrorists were charged by the Nigerian federal government.

According to Naija News, the proceedings are being held in various venues inside the Federal High Court complex located in Abuja.

Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Federation’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, leads the prosecution team, which is assisted by Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), the Federation’s Director of Public Prosecution.

The accused are charged with financing, assisting and abetting rebel actions, and terrorism.

To oversee the cases, Justice John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, put together a special panel of justices.

The Legal Aid Council of Nigeria provides legal defense for impoverished accused, while the AGF defends the Federal Government.

These mass trials, which are currently being held in Abuja instead of the military installation in Kainji, Niger State, are an attempt by the government to move forward with long-delayed terrorism charges.
