Jide Kosoko, a Nollywood actor, has called his appointment as the Oloja of Lagos-elect “a call to service” with extraordinary obligations. The 72-year-old actor was named as the Oloja of Lagos-elect on January 24, following his presentation in the palace of the Elereko.
In a phone conversation, Kosoko said he was thrilled and thought he deserved to be chosen. It’s unknown how his acting career will be impacted by his new post.
Bolaji Amusan (Mr. Latin), a fellow actor, commended Kosoko, saying that his choice shows that Nollywood performers are socially conscious and responsible.
“Jide is not the only prince in Lagos or in the Kosoko family, but they chose him to be the Oloja of Lagos because they are aware of his intelligence and acceptability,” Mr. Latin stated. After Okey Bakassi was anointed king of his village in Imo State last year, Kosoko is the second Nollywood actor to take the kingdom. The title of Oloja of Lagos fell vacant after Chief Adebola Ige’s death in 2017. Mrs. Mutiat Ali-Balogun, the Olori Ebi General of the King Kosoko Royal Family, made the announcement. Following long-standing palace traditions, Ali-Balogun raised
Kosoko’s hand in affirmation in front of the group, followed by customary ceremonies and prayers. Oyindamola Ayepola, the leader of the Meshimo Ruling House and Deputy Olori Ebi General, backed her.
