Dangote Refinery denies import claims, claiming they are untrue and deceptive.

reiterates its dedication to providing Nigerians with fuel that meets EU standards.

Reports implying that Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals (DPRP) imports finished petroleum products have been categorically refuted by DPRP, which characterizes the allegations as false and predicated on a misinterpretation of international refinery operations.

DPRP is a large-scale, state-of-the-art merchant refinery that produces premium petroleum products and petrochemicals that satisfy the highest international standards by refining crude oil and processing intermediate feedstocks.

David Bird, the refinery’s managing director and chief executive officer, told reporters during a media conference that the worldwide refining business routinely processes intermediate or semi-processed products. He made it clear that importing completed petroleum products is not what this practice entails.

Bird emphasized that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery uses a European and Asian merchant refinery model, which incorporates cutting-edge blending, trading, and refining systems made to satisfy contemporary environmental and quality standards.

“DPRP manufactures premium fuels that meet global health and environmental regulations. Our diesel satisfies ultra low sulfur requirements, while our gasoline has 50 parts per million of sulfur and is free of lead and MMT. According to Bird, these regulations protect engines, lower emissions, and protect public health.

He reiterated that only completely refined, market-ready goods are supplied by the Dangote Refinery, and that semi-finished fuels are not allowed to be sold in Nigeria since they are not fit for automobiles. During the briefing, journalists were shown samples of both completely refined goods and intermediate feedstocks.

Bird added that by producing goods that adhere to strict international standards, the refinery was built to put an end to Nigeria’s years of exposure to inferior fuel. He continued by saying that DPRP’s goods are currently exported to other markets, demonstrating their competitiveness and excellent caliber.

Naphtha, straight run gas oil, vacuum gas oil (VGO), reformate, alkylate, and isomerate are examples of intermediate compounds that are used as feedstock for further refining into petrochemicals and final fuels like gasoline and diesel.

Bird emphasized the refinery’s dedication to openness in its dealings with authorities and in its operations. He asked the media to properly inform the people about the obvious differences between final gasoline and intermediate products.

“It is regrettable that some people are purposefully disseminating false information about a refinery that has turned Nigeria and the West African region from a dumping ground for inferior fuels into a hub for high-quality products,” he stated.

He continued by saying that a variety of crude oils and intermediate feedstocks may be processed into high-quality finished fuels thanks to the refinery’s adaptable design.

In addition to stating that the refinery has made a substantial contribution to easing petroleum scarcity, stabilizing the naira, and lowering pressure on foreign money, Bird reassured Nigerians of continuous product supply.

Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Brand and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, cautioned that if journalists use the wrong words, they could mislead the public and cause needless anxiety.
