At the Prefontaine Classic in Hayward Field on July 4, a stacked women’s 100-meter hurdles field will pit world record holder Tobi Amusan against Olympic champion Masai Russell, two-time world champion Danielle Williams, and World Championships bronze medallist Grace Stark.
Four of the biggest names in the sport come together for the ninth stop of the Wanda Diamond League season at a track where Tobi Amusan has already made history.
The Nigerian shot to a world record of 12.12 seconds at the 2022 World Championships on the same Hayward Field track. Between 2021 and 2023, she won three consecutive Diamond League titles after returning the following year.
Amusan, who is currently located in Jamaica and trains at the Racers Track Club under coach Glen Mills, hasn’t competed since the September 2025 World Championships. Given her reputation at the arena, her return to Eugene is anticipated to garner significant attention.
Russell shows up as the athlete to improve upon his present performance. With a series record of 12.19 seconds, the American won her maiden Diamond League title in Silesia in August after winning gold at the Olympics in Paris. Before the season finale in Brussels, she is aiming for her first overall Diamond League crown.
Following a successful 2025 campaign, fellow countryman Stark is likewise in excellent form going into the event. She won bronze in the World Championships in Tokyo after setting meeting records at Keqiao, Stockholm, and Paris.
Additional quality is added by Williams, one of the most seasoned sportsmen in the sport. The Jamaican is still a regular competitor on the international scene, having won her second world title in Budapest in 2023.
Before the final in Brussels on September 4 and 5, the 2026 Diamond League season will take place in 15 cities starting on May 8 in Doha.
