Team Nigeria has been given a challenge by the National Sports Commission (NSC) to do well at the World Athletics Relays, which are scheduled for May 2–3 in Gaborone.
Director General Bukola Olopade advised the athletes to maintain discipline and attention as they get ready to compete on a global scale in a speech prior to the squad’s departure. He characterized the competition as yet another opportunity for Nigeria to bolster its standing in international sports.
“You have the support of the entire country,” he declared. “We firmly believe that you can deliver and make Nigeria proud.”
Olopade emphasized the need of pursuing podium results in addition to obtaining qualifying spots for upcoming major championships. The team left Nigeria early on Monday morning on Ethiopian Airlines, and a number of athletes from other countries are anticipated to join the team when they get to Botswana.
Following World Athletics’ consent to participate in a complete schedule, Nigeria will compete in all six relay events. Before increasing its participation, the nation had first qualified in three disciplines.
The wider entry, according to officials, presents a great chance to highlight the depth of the relay teams and generate momentum in front of upcoming competitions.
The competition serves as a crucial pathway to the World Athletics Ultimate Championship and the Beijing World Athletics Championships.
