After learning of the passing of Mrs. Sarah Chukwueze, the mother of Super Eagles star forward Samuel Chukwueze, in the early hours of Thursday, January 29, 2026, Nigerian football is once again in grief.
On the morning of Thursday, January 29, 2026, Samuel’s brother David and sister Princess Chukwueze announced on their separate social media sites that Mrs. Sarah Chukwueze had passed away following a brief illness.
“We are aware that Mrs. Sarah Chukwueze was a vital and supportive presence in the lives of her children, including our international player, Samuel Chukwueze,” said an upset General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi. Samuel has consistently acknowledged his mother’s impact on his career growth whenever he has had the chance. Just a few days after we had to grieve the unexpected death of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi’s father, we are saddened by her departure.
“We ask God to grant her eternal rest and to give Samuel and his siblings, among those she left behind, the strength to deal with the significant loss.”
