Éric Chelle has acknowledged that talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on the terms of his contract are still underway, but he maintains that leading the Nigerian Super Eagles is still his top priority.
After Nigeria’s third-place result at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco earlier this year, the Super Eagles manager, whose current contract is valid until January 2027, disclosed that his representative is managing discussions while he focuses on preparations.
Eric Chelle acknowledged the ongoing discussions in an interview with writer Osasu Obayiuwana, but he made it plain that the field is still his top focus.
“Yes, there are financial concerns that need to be addressed. Obayiuwana cited Chelle as stating on 𝕏, “But I leave them to my agent to handle with the federation.”
I want to focus on my work and the current task.
The remarks come at a time when Chelle’s future is receiving more attention due to Nigeria’s recent success and rumors that other teams are interested in him. The coach maintains that he is totally focused on the upcoming duties notwithstanding the rumors.
As he reorganizes the team in preparation for the Unity Cup in London, Chelle is scheduled to start a new round of scouting around the Nigeria Premier Football League.
“We have the Unity Cup in London to get ready for, and I’m coming to Nigeria to watch some NPFL games and see some players,” Chelle continued.
On Tuesday, May 26, Nigeria will play Zimbabwe at The Valley to begin their title defense. A matchup with either Jamaica or India in the following round would result from victory.
