With head coach Arne Slot confirming that the striker will resume full squad training on Thursday, April 2, Alexander Isak is set to intensify his return to Liverpool.
Due to a fractured leg and ankle surgery, the club’s £125 million record signing has been out of commission since December. Before the setback ended his first season at Anfield, the Sweden international made 16 appearances and scored three goals.
After months of recuperation, Slot disclosed that the forward is now in a good place.
Slot stated on the club’s website, “I think Alex is in a really good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup and, aside from that, he’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow.”
It’s great for everyone when you return to team training after working so hard for three, four, or so months. Thus, Alex is in a good spot in that regard.
Isak’s comeback coincides with Liverpool’s preparation for Saturday’s pivotal FA Cup quarterfinal matchup at Etihad Stadium against Manchester City.
The 26-year-old paid a British record amount to join from Newcastle United in September of last year, but an injury he received against Tottenham Hotspur put a stop to his progress.
After being challenged by Micky van de Ven while scoring in a 2-1 victory on December 20, the striker sustained an ankle injury and a fractured fibula.
