After the club fired head coach MatÃas Almeyda, Nigerian players Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke are preparing for a new chapter at Sevilla FC.
The ruling came after Sevilla suffered a devastating 2-0 home loss to Valencia CF, which put them in danger in La Liga.
With nine games remaining, Sevilla is in 15th place with a narrow three-point lead over the relegation zone. Adams and Ejuke have an opportunity to start again with the new coach.
The club announced, “MatÃas Almeyda has been relieved of his duties as Sevilla FC first-team head coach.”
“Sevilla FC wishes MatÃas Almeyda and his team the best of luck in the future and would like to thank them for their efforts and professionalism.”
For Adams, the shake-up could not come at a better time. The coach questioned the striker’s performance against FC Barcelona, so he was left out of the squad for the match against Valencia. The striker is Sevilla’s top scorer this season.
In the final stretch, he hopes to regain his position and confidence under a new manager after scoring seven goals in 24 league games.
As Sevilla struggles to avoid the bottom three, Ejuke, who has only one goal in 21 games, is also vying for a larger position.
In recent weeks, Almeyda’s absence has already been felt. The Argentine has not been on the bench since mid-February and was serving a seven-match touchline ban following an altercation with an official.
Sevilla now has a fresh start ahead of a tight season finale thanks to his departure.
With time to regroup after the international break, focus shifts to a pivotal match against fellow struggling Real Oviedo on April 5.
