Following a dramatic victory against Brock Lesnar, Nigerian professional wrestler Isaac Odugbesan, better known worldwide as Oba Femi, revealed his journey from Olympic hopeful to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star.
At WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Oba Femi, 28, shocked spectators by defeating the veteran in less than five minutes. Before concluding the match with a chokeslam and his “Fall From Grace” finisher for a decisive pin, the wrestler absorbed Lesnar’s signature F5.
The Nigerian’s outstanding performance brought him international attention and rekindled interest in his athletic heritage.
Odugbesan participated in sports at the University of Lagos and won titles in the National University Games prior to becoming well-known for his wrestling.
In order to continue his education and sports career, he later relocated overseas in 2017.
In an interview with CNN prior to his matchup with Lesnar, he discussed his prior goals.
“I partially fulfilled my goals of attending the World Championships, competing in the Olympics, and winning medals. He declared, “I’ve been really successful in everything I do.”
His track and field career continued in the US, where he won the outdoor title in 2020 and the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2021 and 2022.
But by 2021, after enrolling in WWE’s Next In Line program, which aims to bring undergraduate athletes into the company’s professional wrestling ranks, his trajectory had started to shift.
“They sent me an Instagram message asking whether I would be interested in participating in a study. The rest is history when I replied in the affirmative. They must have noticed the size of the box. They saw several of my throwing videos, in which I demonstrated a high level of intensity.
Being an athlete is a way of life. You develop into a well-rounded individual, which is why my ascent has been so rapid.
He signed a Next In Line contract with WWE on December 8, 2021, following an August 2021 audition.
