After completing his £117 million transfer from Aston Villa, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is optimistic that club record acquisition Morgan Rogers will get off to a fast start and build a solid rapport with Cole Palmer.
Last week, Rogers finalized his move to Stamford Bridge and signed a six-year contract with an option for an extra year, making him the most expensive British player in history.
After playing for England at the World Cup, the 24-year-old is currently on vacation, and Chelsea has already started its preseason tour of Sydney.
Alonso has no concerns about the midfielder’s capacity to adapt swiftly, even though he missed the early phases of the preseason.
“We needed a key player in that position, and I’m sure there weren’t many better options than Morgan Rogers,” Alonso remarked.
“You need players who can make an almost immediate impact, and I’m confident Morgan won’t take long to get used to the team, the system, and his teammates.”
“Getting a top player was the idea, and Morgan is one of them.”
Additionally, Alonso thinks Rogers and Cole Palmer, another England international, can form a fearsome understanding in Chelsea’s assault.
In the past, the two have referred to one another as one of their “best friends in football,” with Rogers acknowledging that he has always desired the opportunity to play club football with Palmer.
“I have a strategy. I’ve got an idea. Regarding the pair, Alonso remarked, “I can see them linking really well.”
“We must have a healthy blend. We will be more competitive both with and without the ball if we strike the correct balance and place those key players in strategic locations with excellent control.
