Taraba APC Leaders Are Given a Deadline by Governor Kefas to Create Consensus Candidates

Before the party primaries, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has instructed All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders to return to their respective zones and create consensus candidates for all elective positions.

During an APC stakeholders’ meeting at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, the governor gave the stakeholders instructions to consult extensively and submit one consensus candidate for each position within the following five days.

He emphasized that the decision is intended to strengthen party unity during the meeting that focused on 2027 election preparations.

“At this moment, I want to give guidance and make a very significant appeal. He advised all of the leaders present to go back to their respective zones, engage their people, conduct extensive consultations, and return within the next five days with one consensus candidate for each position.

Members of the State Working Committee (SWC), Uba Maigari, the Minister of State for Regional Development, Garba Umar, the former governor of the state, federal and state lawmakers, the chairmen of 16 local government councils, members of the state executive council, and other APC stakeholders deemed loyal to the governor were among those present, according to Naija News.

Governor Kefas emphasized that unity and the group’s interests should come before individual goals, stressing that the APC must prevent internal strife that could damage the party.

He continued by saying that in order for the party to continue to be strong, both newcomers and longtime members must be accommodated.

“We can win without fighting.” To win, we must cooperate,” the governor said.

Kefas described the Taraba APC as a family and revealed that in order to maintain justice and equity within the party, concerns arising from the ward, local government, state congresses, and national convention were already being addressed.

He emphasized the importance of unity ahead of the 2027 elections once more.

“We are still united in spite of the difficulties.

“That in and of itself demonstrates that Taraba APC is a family rather than merely a political platform,” he declared.

He emphasized that leadership is decided by divine will and should be treated with humility and responsibility, warning politicians against viewing politics as a “do-or-die affair.”

Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, the chairman of the APC in Taraba State, promised party candidates that the process of choosing candidates for the 2027 general elections will be open and equitable.

He clarified that there will be a consensus candidate for every position based on party rules; if it doesn’t work, candidates will compete in direct primaries.

“There will be a consensus candidate for every election, and if that fails, aspirants will go for direct primaries,” he stated, citing the party’s constitution and instructions.

Alhaji Bawa denied rumors that Governor Kefas had bought nomination forms for any person or organization, assuring all candidates of fair competition.
