Kano APC Supports Governor Yusuf and Rejects Automatic Tickets for Lawmakers

All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Kano State have bought nomination and expression of interest forms for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

During a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, the governor received the forms from Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the APC’s immediate former national chairman.

The presentation was characterized as a symbolic endorsement of Yusuf as the party’s state gubernatorial candidate.

Prior to the federal elections in 2027, the stakeholders also supported President Bola Tinubu as the party’s only presidential candidate.

The party leaders, however, insisted that all other positions would be decided by internal party procedures, especially consensus, and rejected automatic tickets for other candidates.

Ganduje stated that state APC leaders had decided to back Yusuf for a second term when he presented the forms to the governor.

“As a former Deputy Governor for eight years, former Governor for eight years, and former National Chairman of our great party, I hereby hand over these two important forms to you in order to actualize that promise,” he stated. “We have already agreed that you are our sole governorship candidate.”

Ganduje clarified that the documents contained nomination and expression of interest forms that were to be filled out and turned in in accordance with party regulations.

Members in attendance unanimously approved Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi’s motion to adopt Tinubu.

Umar Haruna Doguwa, the chairman of the Kano State APC, stated earlier that the party had originally intended to buy Tinubu nomination forms as a gesture of solidarity.

“We wanted to purchase a form for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Kano, but we noticed that some other people bought before us all the same,” he stated.
