Jolly Nyame, a former governor of Taraba State, resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that the party has not treated him and his people fairly.
According to Naija News, he made the statement following a meeting with his followers in response to a Federal High Court decision in Jalingo.
Nyame claimed that before to making the choice, he had conversations with Zing Local Government Area stakeholders. He clarified that he is going to collaborate with those who have the same objective of advancing the region and empowering its citizens.
He said that his community did not receive adequate attention or rewards from his years of allegiance to the APC. He claims that the people he represents have not been adequately included in government issues and have continued to be neglected in political matters.
In addition, he discussed his leadership role in the Yorro community, which include groups such as the Mumuye, Yandan, and Yorti. He expressed his dissatisfaction at the lack of respect and consideration for his position.
Nyame continued by saying that many residents of his region have long felt marginalized in politics and have not been well-represented in decision-making processes.
He added that there has been increasing pressure on him to participate in the general elections in 2027, but he pointed out that it is not required for someone his age to run for office. He clarified that his followers’ request is motivated by their perception that their opinions have been disregarded for too long.
He asked his supporters to stick together as he continues what he described as a fight for better treatment of his neighborhood, cautioning that disregarding the people’s concerns could make their position worse.
