Shettima supports Wadada as the next governor of Nasarawa and supports Governor Sule.

Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada has been publicly backed by Nigeria’s vice president, Senator Kashim Shettima, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Nasarawa governorship in 2027.

Speaking on Wednesday at the opening of the two-day Nasarawa Investment Summit 2026 in Lafia with the theme “Bold Transitions, Building a Legacy for a Sustainable Future,” Shettima sided with Governor Abdullahi Sule, who had previously supported Wadada to be the next governor of Nasarawa State.

The Vice President expressed optimism that Wadada would take over as Nasarawa State’s next governor and carry on Sule’s economic reforms.

Naija News is aware that the 2026 summit, which aims to institutionalize economic reforms after the 2027 elections, is the last gathering of Sule’s administration.

Speaking to investors, traditional rulers, political figures, candidates for governorships, and members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, the Vice President reassured the investing public that Nasarawa’s economic trajectory will stay steady regardless of Sule’s successor.

Shettima expressed hope that Senator Wadada, who attended the summit, would succeed Governor Sule and guarantee the sustainability and continuity of the state’s investment drive, emphasizing that continuity was crucial to preserving investor confidence as the state approaches the 2027 political transition.

By God’s grace, the next governor of Nasarawa is seated among us, I want to reassure the investing public. He would follow the terms of the agreement, Shettima declared.

He continued by commending Senator Wadada, who presently serves as the National Assembly’s representative for Nasarawa West Senatorial District, for his intelligence and skills.

“Senator Wadada, you have your job cut out for you,” Shettima remarked, speaking directly to the legislator and candidate for governor. We hope the best for you.

The Lafia Declaration, a voluntary pledge by political parties, the legislature, the judiciary, development partners, and investors to continue Nasarawa’s reform agenda past the next election cycle, was introduced during the summit at the time of the Vice President’s remarks.

The statement is meant to reassure investors that agreements and regulations would not change following the government shift.
