Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate, has declared that opposition leaders will not do nothing while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subverts popular will.
Chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a sizable gathering of supporters peacefully protested at the INEC office in Abuja on Wednesday, according to Naija News.
David Mark, a factional National Chairman of the ADC, led the demonstrators, which included Kwankwaso, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi.
The electoral umpire’s decision to deny recognition to the party’s Mark-led faction prompted the protest.
Kwankwaso posted pictures of the demonstration to his Facebook page and called the INEC’s ruling on the party’s dilemma “blatant partisanship and compromised neutrality.”
“I joined other coalition leaders and dedicated Democrats to strongly condemn the blatant partisanship and compromised neutrality,” he declared.
“Different opposition parties came together in a peaceful demonstration in Abuja to send a clear message: we will not watch helplessly as our election umpire subverts the will of the people.
“In order for Nigerian democracy to flourish, we will keep a close eye on INEC’s operations and demand that it promptly return to the path of impartiality, transparency, and professionalism.”
