With 16 nominations, the vampire-themed horror movie “Sinners” broke the record for the most Oscars ever, the Academy said on Thursday.

Ryan Coogler’s blues-infused drama, which is set in the segregated US South in the 1930s, received nominations in almost every category, including best picture.

It surpassed the previous record of 14, which was shared by “All About Eve,” “Titanic,” and “La La Land.”

In addition to script and score nominations, Michael B. Jordan, who portrays twins fighting racists and demonic forces, received a best actor nomination.

Additionally, “Sinners” received a nomination for outstanding casting, the first new category added to Hollywood’s most esteemed awards in over 20 years.

With 13 nominations, including best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, “One Battle After Another” advertisements came in second.

Warner Bros., the film studio that is presently the focus of a bidding war between Netflix and Paramount, produced both of the top two films.

“Hamnet” received eight nominations, while “Frankenstein,” “Marty Supreme,” and “Sentimental Value” each received nine.
