Saidu Mohammed was fired by President Bola Tinubu from his position as CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
According to Naija News, Mohammed was in Berlin, Germany, on official business when his dismissal was made public on Wednesday.
Mohammed led NMDPRA delegates to the Pipeline Technology Conference in Germany, according to a post made by the oil industry regulator on 𝕏 at 4:05 p.m.
“The Authority Chief Executives, Engr. Saidu Mohammed leads NMDPRA delegates to the Pipeline Technology Conference taking place in Berlin, Germany, from 27th to 30th April, 2026,” the organization stated.
The replacement was named by Umar
Mohammed’s dismissal was announced by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, just two hours after the position was created.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu named Rabiu Abdullahi Umar the NMDPRA’s new CEO.
He continued by saying that the President wished Mohammed success in his future endeavors and thanked him for his service.
Onanuga claims that Tinubu is still dedicated to guaranteeing competent leadership in important regulatory organizations in order to promote sector reform, energy security, and sustainable economic growth.
Mohammed’s dismissal occurred around five months after he changed his mind about becoming an independent non-executive director on the Seplat Energy board in December 2025.
He was named NMDPRA CEO by Tinubu after Farouk Ahmed resigned on December 17, the same day Seplat announced Mohammed would be joining its board.
The move also occurs months after Tinubu dismissed Ogbonnaya Orji from his position as Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in November 2025 while he was traveling abroad.
